Building with Insulated Concrete Forms requires specialized knowledge, careful planning, and attention to details that differ from conventional construction. ICF Builder Network developed its Vetted Builder Standards to give homeowners a stronger starting point when choosing an ICF professional.

Builders displaying the ICF Builder Network Vetted designation have completed our screening process and provided information supporting their professional qualifications, business credentials, and ICF construction experience.

What Does “ICF Builder Network Vetted” Mean?

An ICF Builder Network Vetted Builder has completed a screening process that evaluates important areas of professional and ICF construction experience.

Vetting is not simply joining our directory. Builders seeking the Vetted designation are asked to provide documentation and information concerning their business, experience, qualifications, and ICF construction background.

OUR VETTED BUILDER STANDARDS

1. Contractor Licensing & Registration

Builders must provide information regarding applicable contractor licenses, registrations, or other credentials required by the jurisdictions in which they operate.

Because contractor licensing requirements vary by state and locality, builders are expected to maintain the credentials required for the work they perform.

2. Insurance Verification

Vetted builders must provide evidence of current business insurance appropriate to their operations, including applicable general liability coverage and other coverage required by law.

3. ICF Training & Knowledge

Builders must demonstrate relevant knowledge of ICF construction.

This may include manufacturer training, recognized industry education, documented ICF construction experience, or other qualifications demonstrating familiarity with proper ICF installation and construction practices.

4. ICF Project Experience

We look for demonstrated experience working with Insulated Concrete Forms.

Builders may be asked to provide information about completed ICF projects, project photographs, construction history, references, or other evidence of their ICF experience.

5. Building-Code Knowledge

Vetted builders are expected to understand and work in accordance with building codes and requirements applicable to their projects, including locally adopted residential or commercial building codes.

This may include applicable provisions of the International Residential Code (IRC), International Building Code (IBC), local amendments, energy codes, and other requirements adopted by the authority having jurisdiction.

6. Concrete & Reinforcement Knowledge

ICF construction requires more than stacking forms.

Professionals involved in relevant portions of the work should understand proper practices involving reinforcing steel, concrete placement, consolidation, wall alignment, bracing, openings, penetrations, and structural details appropriate to their scope of work.

7. Manufacturer Specifications

Vetted builders are expected to follow the technical requirements and installation specifications of the ICF system being used on the project.

Different ICF systems may have specific requirements regarding installation, bracing, reinforcement, concrete placement, fastening, and finishing.

8. Engineering & Approved Plan Compliance

Where engineering or approved construction documents are required, builders are expected to construct within their scope of responsibility and in accordance with applicable approved plans, engineering specifications, structural details, and local requirements.

9. Quality-Control Practices

Vetted builders should demonstrate a commitment to quality throughout the ICF construction process.

Important considerations may include wall alignment, bracing, reinforcement placement, window and door openings, penetrations, concrete placement, waterproofing coordination, and other critical construction details.

10. References & Professional Conduct

Builders may be asked to provide customer or professional references and information concerning previous projects.

ICF Builder Network also considers professionalism, communication, accuracy of information provided to the Network, and commitment to responsible business practices.

11. Jobsite Safety

Vetted builders are expected to maintain responsible jobsite practices and comply with applicable workplace and construction safety requirements.

12. Continuing ICF Education

Building technologies, codes, products, and construction practices continue to evolve.

We encourage our Vetted Builders to remain current through manufacturer training, industry education, building-code updates, technical resources, and continued hands-on ICF experience.
